Weight Gain
Cayleigh weighed in at 7 lbs, 15 oz!! She is up 3 oz since last week! Thank goodness, we needed some good news around here!
Ha!
I was just thinking back to the home disaster that took place when Brooklyn was around the same age as Cayleigh. Her room was filled with smoke and repairs had to be done on the transmitter for the A/C. Now, flooding! I would gladly trade the old disaster for this one, however, because this is no longer just costing us a "minor fortune" but an obscene amount...urrghhh. And the rooms will not be back to normal for a much longer span as well...urrghhh again!
I guess if we decide to have a third child, we at least can financially prepare ourselves for the child and the next home disaster :)

When it Rains, it Floods!
Over the last 12 hours, we have had torrential rains. Yea, I love rain....or do I?
Cayleigh girl woke up around 3 am, so I got up and gave her the paci and went into the living room to pump. While enjoying the sounds of much needed rain, I noticed that our grill had literally turned and been blown about 3 feet from the house. So, I finished and went back into the bedroom to tell Aaron about it. He got up and moved it under the porch and double checked the gas line to make sure nothing had happened. All good. About 15 minutes later, Cayleigh had lost the paci and was whining a bit. I got up to rock her for a few minutes and noticed that my feet were wet after walking near her window. I knelt down to assess things and......oh boy......ran into our bedroom, "Aaron, we've got a REAL problem." Half of her room was soaked! Aaron went outside in the pouring rain and immediately saw that the garden (landscaped area, but with no plants yet) was completely full. The small drains within it were just no match for the amount of rain we have gotten. He spent about 15 minutes digging tunnels under the stone to release the water. It was like opening a damn, he said. It came rushing out and down towards the vacant lot next to us.
Once back inside, we began moving all of Cayleigh's furniture out of her room while she went back to sleep in her swing. We were obviously very concerned at that point, so we woke up Brooklyn, put her in our bed temporarily and moved all of her furniture out as well. Both floors significantly wet :(
It's about 4 am now and we moved Brooklyn's mattress into our room and put her back to sleep. Well, after about 20 minutes of her talking to me about things and what was going on, of course. A toddler back to sleep immediately, that would be nice?!? Aaron got up and headed to work, which took him over an hour because of roads shut down and traffic. I called a water damage restoration company, who came out to begin work right away. No easy blow to the bank account though, this damage is costing us a minor fortune. When it rains, it floods our new home, I guess!
We have those huge loud blowers and dehumidifier in the bedrooms and children's furniture scattered everywhere. It will take at least 3 days to dry. Not fun for this anal Mommy, but we are still working out a plan for recovery. It looks like we may cut out some of the sheet rock ourselves and replace it and flooring to save on costs. This is one reason I wanted new construction....no more demo! My plan, just like life, so unpredictable!

Update on Cayleigh Girl
This morning we headed over to Children's Medical Center for a consultation with a special care pediatrician regarding Cayleigh and her poor weight gain. She weighed in at 7lbs, 12oz. This is about 3 oz less than her well-child visit last Friday :( The doctor said that this could just be a difference in scales. After reviewing some history and discussing our latest regimen, he made no mention of possible reflux just yet. With his calculations regarding the number of ounces we are feeding Cayleigh (which we have increased per bottle in the last few days as well) and how often, he said she is getting the right amount of calories daily. He was unsure why bottle feeding her Mommy's milk verses from the breast was relieving the spit-up, but said to keep doing whatever was working for us!
"She is just a peanut," he said. We have to return in 1 week for a weight check only and again in 2 weeks for another examination. He expressed concern only if she continues not to progress. If after her visit back on February 8th she has not grown, we will then have to take her to the Children's Medical Center in Dallas for testing and extended observation. We are hoping and praying it doesn't come to that.
The doctor was calm and reassuring about Cayleigh's current state. He told us that she could possibly need to be switched to formula in addition to Mommy's milk and/or started on rice cereal early on to "beef" her up and increase the fat calories she is receiving.

Daddy's Theory
Well, since Cayleigh's visit with the pediatrician, Daddy had an idea. On the rare occasions that C was taking a bottle, we couldn't recall her spitting up very much or even at all. So we have been exclusively bottle feeding her Mommy's milk and have seen a drastic change in the amount of spit up. In fact, most of the time there is NONE!! And we have seen more dirty diapers....another great sign that she is getting what she needs!
It is definitely not ideal for me to be stuck to a machine frequently throughout the day, but it has given Daddy and big sister B (yes, B has fed her twice and begs to do more) more opportunities to feed Cayleigh's girl. I have cut back on my intake of most dairy foods as well to help the cause. We will still go forward with her GI appointment on Thursday and hopefully see a little weight gain. We are praying that Daddy's new theory is the answer to her issues and we don't have to pursue other avenues.

Cayleigh's 2 Month
Cayleigh had her 2 month well child check-up today and it didn't exactly go as well as Mommy would have liked. She got 5 immunizations at her visit; 3 needle pokes and 1 oral liquid. Cayleigh girl now weighs 7 lbs, 16 oz (2 percentile) and is 22 inches (32 percentile). Her head circumference is in the 1 percentile. She is definitely our tiny one.
Unfortunately, she is on the small side and hasn't made quite the growth she should at this point. This is mainly due to her continually spitting up after feedings. It has certainly been a struggle having her eject all the milk I give her immediately or shortly afterwards. Burning through the burp cloths, bibs and outfits for sure....good thing we have tons!
The pediatrician referred us to a pediatric gastroenterologist for possible Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Oh boy! I called and scheduled her initial consultation for next week. If the doctor feels as though any kind of further testing should take place, they will proceed the same day.
Otherwise, our sweet little C is just another princess in the house! She has become more alert and active these days. The coos are expanding and cries are louder.....hehe! Smiles are underdeveloped and sporadic, but have started in the last few days :) And just like her big sister, she is a decent sleeper; giving Mommy usually 7 straight hours at night. Her right tear duct is still struggling and waters frequently. It has been off and on oozing and "goopy". We will continue with the prescribed ointment and pray that it clears up before 6 months of age, when possible eye surgery will be suggested.

A Good Day
Brooklyn got up this morning, went over to her dresser and got out a pair of panties. She walked into the restroom, took her pajama pants off, threw away her pull-up and went pee on the potty. She stood up and wiped, flushed the toilet and sat down and put her panties and pants on (and they were both on the right way!). She headed over to the sink and washed her hands and came out into the living room to tell me about it. It was great!
We all ate some breakfast and got dressed; Brooklyn choose her own outfit. We then headed to the grocery store where B got the little cart and followed me around the store, placing the items we needed in her own basket. She handed them to me and helped me scan each one when it was time to check out and pay.
Once we returned home, I unloaded the groceries and got changed for a run. I began calling for Brooklyn so we could leave and I found her in her bathroom again. She was pulling up her pants and buttoning them because she had just finished using the potty again!
We went for a nice little run with the new double jogging stroller. What a workout!! We stopped by the park to swing and play and then came back to the house to have lunch with Daddy, who came home for bit. We ate sandwiches and then Brooklyn played in the backyard all by herself. The weather here is amazing and I've got chili simmering on the stove for dinner tonight.
(B has been acting like such a big girl these days with many things that she does. She has become very independent. Yesterday, she got her stool from the bathroom, brought it into the kitchen, grabbed the spices on the counter top and dumped some into a pot. "I help Mommy cook dinner," she told me. I guess there is going to be plenty of drawbacks to our "I do it all by myself" toddler now!!)
It has been a really good day so far. Yesterday, not so much! I have come to learn that I must wallow in the "triumphs" to get through all the "trials." Parenting is not easy and potty training has been the death of me, but if I can remember the good times, they will carry me through the bad. Every aspect of today has been great. I am going to need today's triumph to carry me through tomorrow's trial.

Two-T Colds
Mommy had to put Vick's Vapor Rub on two chests last night. One sickly Daddy is struggling through his day at work right now and one sickly Brooklyn is snoring as she naps. Daddy came home and crashed on the couch for about 20 minutes during lunch and then zombied his way out the door again. Brooklyn has a little rudolph nose from blowing and wiping it so much.
Poor Tall Daddy.
Poor Tiny Brooklyn.
I guess its a good thing that Mommy is home to take care of things and able to run and get more medicine! Let's pray Cayleigh and Mommy don't catch it also.

At The Ranch
Cayleigh at 6 weeks: First Trip to Ranch 2011/2012.
For the New Year's Eve weekend, Daddy, Mommy and Cayleigh decided to take a trip to the ranch. Brooklyn stayed with Nana and Papa and got to go see the trains at North Park Mall!! She loved it!
It was a nice relaxing trip with just the three of us. Cayleigh slept, Mommy slept and well, Daddy slept!! It was the last weekend for deer hunting, but unfortunately we did not see any action, only on the game camera. We arrived Friday evening and went out to throw corn along the trails and check on all the feeders. Mind you, it is extremely dark out there and we each have just a flashlight.
We turn towards one another...."Those are pigs. Wow, they sound pretty close."
Aaron: "Do you want to stay and see if they come up to us?"
Me: "Are you kidding?!? Let's go!!"
My husband is crazy! The weekend before, he and Gampa Hein caught about 7 pigs in the trap and brought them back alive! Oh boy! Is it even legal to drive with them in the truck?
Anyhow, we hit the hay around 10:30 after saying "Happy New Year" to each other and eating smores. It is mandatory to eat those when you out in the middle of nature, right? The most amazing part of going to the ranch is the stars. Billions and billions of stars can be seen out there and it is truly a piece of God's beauty.

A Cousin's Christmas
With so many little ones on the Hein side of the family, Christmas is all about the cousins! We celebrated Christmas with the Hein family on New Year's day this year and what fun it is watching all the kids tear open gifts and then attempt to steal them from each other! Baby dolls and race cars, socks and books, it was wonderful :)
Brooklyn was spoiled with some more great presents. Among a few: a real Coach clutch from her cousin Remi (oh my Aunt Amanda, Dan's Amanda!), new baby Jenna with diaper bag and accessories from cousin Sydney (by far her favorite right now), awesome Moon Dough from cousin Charlie (who was very excited because he picked it out)and lots of stuff from her Gamma and Gampa, including a real princess dress up girl! WOW again; we are so fortunate to have such a giving and loving family!
Afterwards, it was outside to play!
With the girls picking flowers and the boys playing ball....go figure!
